About

I am studying at York St John University, focussing on exploration of a wide range of skills and techniques, mastered through experimentation and development. Giving me the confidence to grow and mature as an artist, developing new skills and stepping out of my comfort zone, engaging in practices such as of performance art, sculpture, and urban interventions. In my second year of study I went into the realm of exploring feminism in the media and in the art world, which became an interest after reading extracts and case studies. In development to the concept, I experimented in performance, an intervention taken part in the public. Enabling to increase my confidence and my ability to think outside the box of what is seen as traditional art. It was a great booster to go and apply yourself, engaging with other artists and taking part in a collaboration with individual artists and their ideas. The 'John Newling exhibition' was an experience I enjoyed, giving me confidence to grow as an artist. Currently I am working with surfaces and building texture, the surfaces of each layer seeping through is pleasurable to see. The 'dimiduim' exhibition, of the 'passive' piece, has kept me going with the the process of sculpture, which has enable me to further in scale and constant printmaking. Resulting in three large sized panels, containing two sides. One of which Is layering of newspaper and magazines, which have been washed down with acrylic, emulsion and oil paint, creating gradient of colour and layering.

Sculpture is a recent interest of mine, recently experimenting in various sculpture making of 2013 up to date, In the topic of media propaganda and the language of society. Using sculpture in my current work to represent the dominance and the presence that the media portrays. The layering of the prints are manipulated from newspaper and magazines, in which I have painted over with emulsion, and placed the prints together, manipulating them to rip and tear. I am interested working in 3D scale, as I feel as if I am stepping out of the comfort zone of traditional 2D art and I also thrive on the challenge.
